Fatal crash in Mound House

A fiery three-car collision near the V&T Railroad bridge on U.S. Highway 50 claimed the lives of two people this morning. Traffic was stopped in both directions for about an hour after the accident happened in the west-bound lane near Mound House around 6:30 a.m. Two slow-moving lanes in both directions were opened at 7:50 a.m. Witnesses said a silver Chevy sedan traveling in the east bound lane crossed into the west bound lane and slammed into a pickup truck head on, killing the woman driving the Chevy. The pickup then hit a white Dodge Neon traveling behind it. The pickup truck caught fire, engulfing the Neon in flames. Rescuers tried to free the driver from the pickup truck, but were unable to as the vehicle burned with him inside. Two passengers in the pickup truck were evacuated from the vehicle and taken to Renown Regional Medical Center by helicopter. The driver of the Dodge Neon walked away from the crash. It appears no children were involved.

More updates to come.
