Open house a hit

EDITOR:

On behalf of Douglas County and the Minden-Tahoe Airport, I want to thank our residents and members of our airport community who participated in our glider float in the Carson Valley Days parade, as well as our open house at the airport last weekend. The only thing more enjoyable than watching John "Bumper" Morgan set up and navigate his 120-foot long rig (including glider, truck and trailer) through downtown Minden and Gardnerville was to see and hear the amazement of children and adults alike as they watched the aircraft maneuver through the parade. Thanks also to Laurie Hardin and Fred LaSor from Soaring NV who graciously assisted.

Finally, thanks to our residents, members of the Airport Advisory Committee, and airport businesses and staff who all helped to make our airport open house a great success. Nearly 300 children and adults joined us at the open house, more than twice as many as we anticipated. Visitors were able to learn about a variety of small aircraft and sport aviation activities, enjoy great food from the Tail Dragger Cafe, and experience our airport first hand. Three lucky winners received a glider ride, a helicopter ride or a Bonanza ride, donated by airport tenants. What a day it was in the Carson Valley and a great opportunity to share some of the positive activities and people at our airport.
