RENO, Nev. - The 2010 Nevada football season will begin with three straight games at Mackay Stadium as Nevada will open with Eastern Washington, the schools announced today.
Eastern Washington, of the Big Sky Conference, will come to Mackay Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 2 to face the Wolf Pack in the season opener for both teams. Nevada holds a 7-1 all-time record against EWU. The teams last met in 1991, a 51-14 Nevada victory in Cheney, Wash.
"Eastern Washington has been a force in the Big Sky and they have been one of the top-ranked FCS schools from that conference over the last few years," Nevada coach Chris Ault said. "I know they are a competitive and well-coached team.
Nevada will play host to Colorado State on Sept. 11 at Mackay and the Cal Bears will come to Reno for the first time ever the following week.
The Wolf Pack will conclude non-conference play on Sept. 25 at BYU and at UNLV on Oct. 2 in the annual Battle for the Fremont Cannon.
The 2010 season marks the first time Nevada has played three games at home to begin the season since 1991, when Nevada played four straight at Mackay to open the season.
"Opening the 2010 season three consecutive home games lends itself well with our 13-game schedule," Ault said. "Playing at home early is exciting and will definitely help set the tone for the season."
The Western Athletic Conference portion of the schedule is expected to be finalized later this month.
Nevada, coming off its fifth straight season with a bowl game appearance, will open spring drills this week, with the Silver and Blue Spring Game set for April 3.
