Volleyball: Douglas sweeps McQueen in regional quarterfinals

The Douglas volleyball team cruised through the first round of the Northern 4A Regional playoffs Wednesday with a 25-17, 25-9, 25-14 against McQueen.


The Tigers trailed early in each game but used big runs in each to pull away. Douglas improved to 32-2 overall on the year. Carson upset Reed Wednesday night, setting up a Tiger-Senator matchup in the regional semifinals at Manogue at 5:15 p.m. Friday.


Brenna White led the charge against McQueen, hammering down 14 kills to go with two aces and 11 digs.


Shannon Dugan had three aces, all of which came within the first 10 points of the match and finished with 10 kills and 15 service points.


Emily Garcia had 10 kills, Keely Latham had five, Savannah Wood had four, Erin Allison had three, Jackie Harper had two and Heidi Schefcik had a kill to close out the match.


Harper had 38 assists and nine digs. Allison and Amanda Wartgow each had one ace.
