The R-C Morning Report

Douglas County commissioners meet 4:30 p.m. today to canvass the vote in last week's election. Under Nevada law, commissioners approve the election and direct the clerk to certify the election abstract, prepare a report and send it to the Nevada secretary of state. The canvass also starts the clock on any recounts in the election. Commissioners meet in the historic Minden courthouse at 1616 Eighth St. Any losing candidate has three working days after the canvass of the vote to file a recount. Any registered voter may seek a recount on a ballot question. But, in order to have a recall, the person seeking it has to deposit in advance the estimated cost of the recount.

There are three veteran-related events today starting with Gardnerville Elementary's annual veterans assembly at 9:15 a.m. The Carson Valley Senior Center is hosting its USO Celebration at 10:30 a.m. and the Marine Corps birthday is 11:30 a.m. in East Fork Justice Court.

We have some snow flurries on the west side of the Valley, but nothing resembling a dusting, light or otherwise, of snow. It's warm out there now, too, with the temperature hovering around 40 degrees. I'm not sure how much ice we'll have down in the Valleys.

Road controls are lit up for the Sierra roadways and passes, including Spooner, Carson, Donner, Echo Summit, but not Kingsbury for some reason. Still if you have to climb above 6,000 feet remember to bring the chains.
