Lots to do, still

EDITOR:

Well, it's that time of year again. We all seem to be so busy with one thing or another. Perhaps we need to stop and smell the roses. Take some time to reflect on our blessings and those less fortunate than ourselves.

We are a giving community, whether it is time, energy or money. I am grateful to be living in this community for some of those reasons.

I recently became unemployed. It seemed I wouldn't get another job, so I decided to do some volunteering. I had raised my children and some of my grandchildren when working and was overwhelmed with those tasks. Now, I had an opportunity to give back.

This writing is to encourage others to volunteer also. I have gained so much knowledge and hopefully am making a difference in our community. It has enriched my life by learning about so many opportunities we have to augment organizations, departments, and agencies. It is very rewarding. It is amazing how many agencies and groups depend on their volunteers to continue their programs. You can be part of that too.

In our time of economic depression, some local services are needy of our help. You might not think you can make a difference, but you really can. By reading our local Record-Courier newspaper, you can see the many happenings in our community. Many of those events are made possible by the efforts of volunteers. Most have contact numbers you can use and volunteer to help. Many agencies could not function as efficiently without their volunteers. They only ask for a small portion of your leisure time. Many hands make light work. So, think about it, volunteer some of your time. You won't be disappointed. I'm glad I made that decision.

Many thanks to all of you who do spend some time volunteering in our community. You truly do make a difference.
