A 400-foot wide shaded fuel break is proposed for four miles along the west side of Genoa to protect the town in case of a wildfire. About 185 acres of trees would be thinned in the break Members of the Genoa Fire Safe Council met Tuesday night to discuss the proposal, which could occur in 2012.

Temperature records continued to fall on Tuesday and are expected to topple again today. Yerington and Markleeville both set new records for Sept. 28, with Yerington posting 94 degrees, dumping a seven-year record and Markleeville hitting 93, toppling a record that was also set in 2003.

Today's high temperature is predicted to hit near 94 in Minden under mostly sunny skies with winds out of the east at 5 mph.
