Eagle Valley 8th graders win Tah-Neva title

Eagle Valley Middle School won the Tah-Neva 8th-grade championship last weekend at Carson Middle School.

Eagle Valley opened with a 36-10 win over Whittell, followed that up with a 27-18 win over Carson Middle and topped Pau Wa Lu 44-36 in the championship game.

The team, coached by Rob and Michelle Perry, is 14-5 and will play in the South Tahoe Optimist Tournament this weekend.

Lauren Lemburg scored 16 and Camiell Simpson added 14 in the championship game. Lemburg and Simpson went for 14 and 9, respectively, in the semifinal win over CMS.

Members of the team are Hannah Golik, Jessica Preston, Brittany Sorensen, Catheryn Linkul, Katie McGibbon, Jamie Hardiman, Angelina Garcia, Terryn Earle, Katie Easton and Josefina Osty.

Silver State gymnasts fare well in Auburn

Silver State gymnastics won the first place team award at the Miyagi Gold Country Classic in Auburn last weekend.

Nicole Hawkins swept the vault, bars, beam and floor to win the all-around title in the Level 2 older division. Elina Hollar swept in the middle Level 2 event, while Bella Planeta was second on bars and third on vault and floor to take home the bronze medal. Sara Mitchell won the younger group all-around gold by winning vault, bars and beam. Alexis Gardner won gold on the floor, silver on the vault and bronze on the beam en route to a third place all-around.

In the Level 4 younger division, Elle Liebendorfer was first on bars and second on beam en route to the bronze medal in all-around. Emma Habaradas was third on the vault. In the middle division of Level 4, Alycia Hellwinkel was third on floor while Madison Adams was third on vault. Brenna Mitchell won silver on the bars in the older age group. Level 4 gymnasts took second.

Lily Reid, the only SS gymnast at level 5, was second on vault and first on bars, beam and floor.

Mitey Mites win fourth straight game

The Carson Mitey Mites forced three turnovers en route to a 12-0 win over South Lake Tahoe last weekend.

David Smith had an interception, while the team also recovered two fumbles. Isaac Avina had eight tackles, while Alex Myrehn had three sacks and Seth Know turned in two sacks. Quentin Beck, Keegan Farris, Damian Morris and Eli Foust also played well defensively. Eduardo Orozco scored both Carson touchdowns. Alva Zervo, Andrew Case, Schuyler Clark and Caid Encinas led the way up front.

Carson hosts Truckee Saturday at 1 p.m.

Prause wins at CVGC

Marc Prause shot a net 56 to edge Dan Essary by two strokes to win Flight A at the Carson Valley Men’s Club par-3 tournament.

Augie Martinez won Flight by with a 60, one stroke better than Roger Hala. Matt Budjako took Flight C with a 64, three strokes better than John Carey and Jim Arens. John Pearson won Flight D with a 65, a stroke better than Paul Finan and three better than Bill Centers.

Rackerby, Fujita win

Tom Rackerby and Eric Fujita combined for a 61 to win the Silver Oak Men’s Club 666 tournament over the weekend.

Glenn Stegeman and Tom Petralia, Bill Challenger and Eric Moormann, Gary Helseth and Rion Causey, and Dennis Puccinelli and Ray Moore all tied for second with 63s.

Greenman, Sullivan win

Lynn Greenman and Karon Sullivan combined for a 57 to win Partners Best Ball at Thunder Canyon Country Club over the weekend. Monica Pike and Betty McGee were second with a 60 and Elaine Esterling and Shirley Westfall were third with a 64.

On the men’s side, Scott Keegan and Burt Clements won with a 62, while Dave Mello and Jim Fitzpatrick were second with a 63. Paul Ricciardi and Chuck Griffin were third with a 66.

Hall of Fame dinner for CHS wrestling

The CHS wrestling program is hosting a Hall of Fame dinner on Nov. 23 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Carson Nugget Ballroom.

The inductees are Bing Blood, who passed away recently due to cancer, Del Matthews and Scott Kuhlman.

The cost is $25 per person. A grand prize drawing for $500 will be held, and there will be raffle tickets and a silent auction.

Grant wins Reno race

Ethan Grant, 8, won a 5,000-meter race at Bowers Mansion over the weekend. Grant attends Fritsch Elementary.

Hoop fundraiser set

The 12th annual Beer Tasting, Bratwurst, Wine and Silent Auction to benefit the Carson High boys basketball program is scheduled for Oct. 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. at he Plaza Hotel and Conference Center.

The donation is $25.
