The first voters are allowed into the polls at 7 a.m. in Gardnerville.
Around 200 people were lined up outside the Douglas County Community & Senior Center in Gardnerville for the opening of polls 7 a.m. today.
The line stretched across the front of the building to the polling entrance on the west side.
Only a quarter of the 37,770 active voters had yet to cast a ballot.
According to figures released by the Douglas County Clerk-Treasurer’s Office on Monday evening, 17,918 mailed ballots have been accepted out of the 18,102 received.
Two weeks of early in-person voting saw 10,449 Douglas voters cast a ballot, making a total of 28,367, or 75 percent of the total turnout.
The polls are open at the Douglas County, Kahle, Washoe Tribe and Topaz Ranch Estates community centers through 7 p.m.
Residents may also drop off ballots at the Election Tent behind the Douglas County Courthouse in Minden and at the Sunridge Fire Station in Indian Hills until 7 p.m.
Ballots postmarked today will be counted when they are received in the coming days.
Results for Douglas County races should be released tonight as soon as they are counted.
