This morning's dawn had a little color to it, indicating the Valley might be in for a change in the weather.
Genoa, Nev. — By my count there are 5,273 ballots waiting to be counted today in Minden. The Clerk-Treasurer’s Office reported receiving another 1,759 ballots on Wednesday. Using the total registration of 38,918 that amounts to 13.5 percent.
Clerks are being swamped by phone calls from concerned voters who tried to look up their vote at the Secretary of State’s web site. If you visit govotedouglas.com and scroll down to Was My Vote counted, you can click “Click Here.” Type in your birthday and name and look down to Date Mail Ballot Returned. I just looked mine up and it works.
To be clear, all that is for voters who dropped their ballot in the mail or at a ballot box. If you used a voting machine, your vote was counted. If there’s a problem with the paper ballot, you’ve either heard from the Clerk’s Office or will hear from them.
Highway 395 just south of Mica sees 39,500 vehicle trips a day, according to a Nevada Department of Transportation report, making it the busiest traffic spot in the county. Planning commissioners put in at least another four hours into the master pan on Wednesday. They’re meeting again on Nov. 10 and on Nov. 17, where they hope to see a final draft of the plan.
Douglas reported a second coronavirus death on Wednesday. The county added five new cases and one recovery to bring Douglas to 29 active cases and 414 recoveries. A testing event is 2-4 p.m. Tuesday at the Community Center in Gardnerville. Visit gethealthycarsoncity.org for more information.
Expect sunny skies and a high temperature of 76 degrees today with the wind picking up out of the west at 10-15 mph. We could see some rain after 4 a.m. Friday, with the chance increasing as the day wears on. If your Friday evening commute is over the passes, prepare for an adventure, as the snow level is forecast to drop to 6,500 feet.
