There are only three more days of in-person voting before the 2020 election draws to a close.

If you’re still undecided as of today, well, it’s time to fire up.

Saturday marks the 145th anniversary of Nevada’s statehood. Yeah we know, the state in 146 years old. The first anniversary was in 1865, so that’s the way the math goes.

It’s also Halloween, a holiday so popular here that Douglas High School’s colors are orange and black, which has more to do with the mascot being a tiger than anything with All Hallow’s Eve.

This is the last standalone edition of The Record-Courier before any of those days, so we’ve got a lot of stuff to say on the front end.

We’d like to thank the Douglas County Clerk-Treasurer’s Office for a level of transparency we believe is unmatched in the Silver State.

We received daily counts of the voters who’ve delivered their ballots, and we’ve done our darndest to make sure that information made it into print.

We’d like to thank the candidates who’ve essentially put their lives on hold while seeking office. We’d also like to thank our readers, who’ve contributed substantially to the discourse over the past year.

This has not been an easy year for anyone, but there’s a light at the end of this tunnel, and if we’re lucky, it might not be a train.

Despite the struggle, it’s important to remember that our state’s founders were consummate gamblers. There’s no way Nevada would have qualified for statehood at any other time in our history. The madness of the Civil War and fortune of the Comstock Lode combined to create the Silver State.

It’s a reminder in this most haunted of seasons, that sometimes you have to push through the tricks to get at the treat.
