Sage Hens hold raffle to raise money for scholarships

The Topaz Sage Hens are holding a scholarship raffle featuring a painting by Gardnerville artist Joyce Pike valued at $4,300.

The raffle supports the Sage Hens annual high school scholarships program.

Second prize is a weekend at the Walker River Resort with third prize a metal-framed American flag.

Tickets for the raffle are $5 each or five for $20 and winners need not be present.

The drawing will be held April 21.

Pike is a master member of the Oil Painters of America and a member of Women Artists of the West. She taught at Los Angeles Valley College for 17 years and has given workshops in Europe, Mexico and throughout the United States. To see some of her work visit joycepikefineart.com

All proceeds go to fund the Sage Hens’ high school scholarship program.

The Sage Hens celebrate their 45th anniversary on St. Patrick’s Day. The group started out as a homemakers club that approved the name and bylaws on March 17, 1976, according to The Record-Courier.

Over the years they’ve conducted several different fundraisers and participate in a variety of events.
