A fire weather watch for 1-10 p.m. today was canceled by the National Weather Service.

“Typically dry and breezy conditions are expected today with some impacts to recreation,” forecasters said. “Temperatures will cool off a few degrees this weekend, then return to above average next week.”

A system passing trough northern California and Nevada is arriving early and without the forecast winds.

“Lake conditions may be a bit more choppy than usual earlier in the day, so be aware of changing conditions with wave heights up to 2 feet possible for Lake Tahoe.”

A red flag warning is in effect for noon to 10 p.m. in far northern Nevada from Humboldt County across to Elko County.

A 10,000-acre wildfire first spotted 4:30 p.m. Friday is burning in sagebrush and tall grass in extreme northern Humboldt County

About 130 firefighters are working the Cherry Gulch Fire. There is no report of containment as of Saturday morning.
