Genoa, Nev. — County commissioners approved the tentative budget a day early on Wednesday after approving a list of supplemental requests to the  budget, including $2.7 million to cover a 7-perent pay increase for county employees.

Four studies estimated to cost around $100,000 apiece survived questioning on Wednesday. Updating the comprehensive trail update and the transportation needs study for the Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization will increase the county’s eligibility for grant money. The county is also seeking studies on its transfer development rights program and county employee salaries.

A final budget hearing is scheduled before county commissioners for mid-May. County budgeteers will be filling in the state forms to get the tentative budget to the state by Tax Day.

Our neighbors in Genoa reported a bear opened a car door, rooted around inside for a napkin and then opened another door and climbed out again. The ursines are hungry and smart and will go into a car after a candy wrapper.

Genoans installed a radar sign south of town on Wednesday in an effort to slow motorists down as they travel north on Foothill Road and into Nevada’s oldest town.

Mostly cloudy skies are forecast to clear by this afternoon, with the high temperature hitting 64 degrees and the wind 5 mph, calming as the day progresses.
