Of all the events Carson Valley residents are anticipating in June, the Kids Fishing Derby is the one that got away.

On Friday organizers issued a letter indicating that after due consideration they’ve decided to cancel the June 4-5 event this year.

“The logistics of the event are enormous, and with a very small group of members we found it an insurmountable task,” organizers said. “Our team is heartbroken that we are unable to hold this event for our children and wonderful community.”

The fishing derby brought anglers of all ages to Lampe Park for 30 years and derby organizers are exploring their options for next year.

“We look forward to bringing you Kids Fishing Derby 2023 as a reimagined event that brings our children, and community together, in a showcase that celebrates our passion for fishing,” they said.

Organizers are offering full refunds to their donors over the past few years. Anyone who donated who would like their money back should email lpalexw@gmail.com.

They said any donations they’ve received will be used for the 2023 derby or to support Douglas youth.

Organizers urged residents to follow their FaceBook page for updates on next year's event.
