Genoa, Nev. — Douglas election results were posted at 1:14 a.m. and are available at govotedouglas.com or at the silverstateelection.nv.gov web sites. According to the Secretary of State’s Office, the county has a 52.55 percent turnout as of this morning.

Based on the 2018 turnout of 74 percent, there could be as many as 8,600 votes left to count. It’s also possible that Douglas saw the lowest midterm general election results, ever. Only time will tell.

Highway 395 south to Bridgeport is open again with chains or snow tires required from Carson City through Douglas County. If you’re headed up into the mountains without chains, you’d best have four-wheel drive with some sort of snow tires.

With the exception of the road controls, all three passes are open this morning, according to nvroads.com. I’m following up on a report of a crash at around 1 p.m. on East Valley Road south of Amber Way.

Two zoning text amendments will occupy planning commissioners’ time 1 p.m. today at the CVIC Hall. One is a proposal to allow manufactured homes as an accessory use on 5- and 10- acre rural agricultural lots and the other would limit septic tanks on parcels smaller than 2 acres.

I got word that around two-dozen people went to the Airport Advisory Committee on Monday, only to learn there wasn’t a quorum. A public meeting on the airport is scheduled for 6 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Douglas County Community Center.

Gardnerville Elementary School students will host their annual Veterans Day Assembly 9:15 a.m. today at the school. Veterans are invited to arrive at 8:30 a.m. for pastries and coffee.

It’s not quite freezing out this morning, but right on the line. The NDOT station in Gardnerville is showing a road temperature of 34 degrees, while it’s 33 degrees out.

One result I can be confident in is the 7.75 inches of snow on my measuring table this morning, up from a half-foot on Tuesday afternoon. It appears that most of the moisture dodged the central and north Valley with only .16 inches of precipitation over the last 24 hours at Minden-Tahoe Airport.

The winter weather advisory expires at 10 a.m. with a chance of snowfall mostly before 7 a.m. After the storm moves off, the forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high of 40 degrees. The wind will be out of the west at 5-10 mph this afternoon.
