Genoa, Nev. — Road controls are in effect in the mountains for the second morning in a row. Kingsbury Grade and Highway 50 from Carson City to the state line are requiring chains for all but four-wheel drive vehicles with snow tires.

With Gardnerville’s fireworks out of the way, tonight Minden and Genoa will be conducting their Christmas celebrations. Caroling starts in the Genoa Town church at 5:30 p.m. Santa throws the switch on the Minden Gazebo at 6 p.m.

The annual Parade of Lights line-up is out. With 64 entries, it will be a great parade, and it sounds like folks are leaning into the Tiger Pride theme, as well they should.

Saturday is going to be busy all day. My itinerary is to visit with Santa at the Genoa breakfast (buy tickets today), visit the Gallery of Trees at the Carson Valley Museum and then top it off with the parade.

The Dangberg Historic Home Ranch is conducting its holiday open house 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday before kicking off guided tours Dec. 6-22. Find out more at Dangberg.org

Keep in mind Highway 395 through town closes 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Buckeye Road and Waterloo Lane. Be prepared for detours if you have plans to pass through this way on Saturday evening.

Cloudy skies tonight and Saturday night will keep temperatures in the upper 20s, so cold, but not frigid. Today’s high is forecast to hit 47 degrees while Saturday will go to 49 degrees.
