Genoa, Nev. — Two backcountry skiers were injured in an avalanche that occurred at Heavenly Mountain Resort on Thursday. The Sierra Avalanche Center reported high winds in the region and several avalanches. I’m following up this morning.

With temperatures down to 4 degrees in parts of Carson Valley, there could well be more icy conditions. It is quiet so far this morning, but be careful going in. Highway 88 was closed for a time on Thursday morning while the wreckage was cleared.

County commissioners approved an ordinance that would allow a manufactured home as an accessory use on rural 5- and 10-acre and manufactured home overlays when the main home is also a manufactured home. The previous code required someone to build an accessory home to their manufactured home, which seemed a tad nonsensical.

Commissioners also approved contracts with Justin Clouser on Thursday, who serves as the Western Nevada Regional Drug Court attorney and defends indigent clients.

A presentation on fentanyl will be presented to the Douglas County Board of Health at a virtual meeting 1 p.m. today. To find out more, visit www.douglascountynv.gov and click on agendas and minutes.

Young at Heart is playing bingo at the Community & Senior Center starting at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Minden branch of the Douglas County Public Library is showing “Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris” at 10:30 a.m.

Expect mostly sunny skies today with a high temperature of 29 degrees. The fog is expected to return tonight and stick around until lunchtime on Saturday.
