Genoa, Nev. — A 6:50 p.m. fire in the back yard of a Sunridge home was almost out by the time firefighters arrived on scene. The home was deemed habitable and the cause determined to be accidental by the time firefighters cleared the scene less than an hour after arriving.

Neighbors told dispatchers they believed a propane tank blew up in the fire. I don’t know if that’s what happened, but I do know there’s going to be lots of folks grilling this weekend. Keep an eye on the fire and turn off the tank when you’re done.

Government offices, banks and the Post Office are open on Monday, but I get the feeling a lot of folks are taking a vacation day for the four-day weekend.

The weekend forecast has Sunday up to 97 degrees and the predicted cooling back down to 90 degrees delayed to Thursday. It’s going to be hot’s all I’m sayin’. Today the high temperature is forecast to hit 91 degrees with the wind out of the southwest at 5 mph in the afternoon.
