A rockfall on Highway 88 near Crystal Springs could result in partial closures of the highway through Woodfords Canyon today.

The rocks are off the road, but the California Department of Transportation are scheduled to close the highway between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to remove debris involved with the rockfall.

Wet weather often prompts rock slides in the Sierra Nevada.

Work on the bridge over West Fork of the Carson River has had that section of the highway down to one lane for months with a traffic signal.

However, CalTrans reports that there are no planned road closures in Alpine over Thanksgiving week.

That doesn’t include the closure of Ebbetts Pass due to stormy weather expected today and Saturday. Also on the list for temporary closure due to weather are Sonora and Tioga passes.

Meanwhile, CalTrans plans to put the finishing touches on work at High Point above Topaz Lake next week.

Highway workers will be installing rockfall drapery 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. That will require one-way traffic control with a pilot car and drivers may experience 20-minute delays.
