Genoa, Nev. — Saturday’s edition of The R-C contained obituaries for Susie Jackson and Betty Cordes. Jackson served on the Nevada Parole Board and the Minden Town Board. Cordes was a longtime member of Minden Fortnightly.

A 38 mph wind gust 6:15 a.m. at Minden Tahoe Airport was the top speed so far this morning. A high wind advisory is in effect for most of Western Nevada.

A winter weather advisory kicked off at 6 a.m. today above 6,500 feet for the Sierra between Truckee and Markleeville through 4 a.m. Tuesday. The forecast calls for 3-6 inches and 50 mph winds, with 8 inches over the crest up to 100 mph gusts.

The only road control is a high wind warning over Interstate 580 through Washoe Valley. From the traffic camera at Daggett Summit, it doesn’t appear the wind is even blowing that hard before dawn this morning.

Ski week is over and Douglas County schools are open today, so expect to see buses on the road this morning and the school zones back in operation.

There were a couple of out of bounds skier calls on Saturday afternoon. It sounded like both instances sorted themselves out, but it’s a good reminder that Douglas County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue is on the case.

We might see a few showers down in the Valley today with a slight chance of flurries tonight. Otherwise expect mostly sunny skies and a high temperature near 50 degrees.
