Genoa, Nev. — Members of the Nevada Wildlife Commission voted to sign onto a letter seeking to reduce the number of wild horses on Nevada Range. Pine Nut Wild Horse Advocates President Mary Cioffi testified against supporting the letter.

The Snowshoe Thompson Expedition arrived in Genoa on foot, since there wasn’t near enough snow to ski anywhere along the final leg of their journey.

The obituary for longtime Douglas County music teacher and Mozart Chautauquan Jackie Maye is online and likely due to appear in print on Wednesday. Maye performed “Mozart and Me” after she retired from teaching in 2001. She died on Leap Day in Florida at age 77.

A memorial service is planned for spring for Master Trail Builder and former Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District Trustee Bob McDowell, 80, who helped build the first segment of the Tahoe Rim Trail. McDowell died at age 80 on Feb. 20 at his home.

Chains or snow tires with four-wheel drive are being required this morning between the chain-up area on the Valley side of Kingsbury Grade to Highway 50. It appears there’s a bit of snow on the road at Daggett Summit.

There’s some cloud cover over the Valley this morning that is forecast to clear out before building again this afternoon. Otherwise the high is expected to reach 52 degrees with a west wind at 5-15 mph.
