A former corrections officer arrested last year for allegedly trying to smuggle methamphetamine into prison pleaded Tuesday to the lesser charge of sale of a controlled substance.
He faces one to six years in prison. A sentencing date has yet to be set.
Terrence Craig Peterson, 37, was accused of buying about 4 grams of methamphetamine from an acquaintance at an apartment complex near the 4700 block of South Carson Street and smuggling it into his work at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center.
Also arrested in connection with the case was Terril Lynn Tungate, a Carson City woman who is charged with supplying Peterson with the drugs prior to his arrest.
Tungate, 44, struck a deal with the District Attorney's Office. In exchange for her testimony against Peterson she pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of felony possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of sale Nov. 14, 2000. She was sentenced Jan. 1 to five years probation.
Peterson was allegedly delivering the drugs to inmate John Baca, with whom Tungate had a romantic relationship
