It took a while, but Carson broke out in a big way in its opener in the Pacific Southwest Regional 13-15-year-old Babe Ruth Championships.

Led by Cameron Leck, who had six RBIs, including a grand slam home run, and Scott DeFriez, who pitched a one-hitter, Carson routed Westside, Utah 10-0 on Friday in El Segundo, Calif. Carson will play again on Sunday.

The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when Carson broke the contest open.

"Overall most of the kids were pretty nervous to start the game for both teams," Carson coach Dan Leck said.

In addition for Carson, Mike Handley reached base all three times he came to the plate, Ricky Adams had two hits and DeFriez had one hit and reached base twice.
