4-year-old found wandering streets at 2 a.m. , mother arrested

A Carson City mother whose 4-year-old boy was found riding his tricycle four blocks from home at 2 a.m. was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment.

Rose Marie Ferguson, 40, a deli worker from Carson City, was arrested Friday morning at 4:45 a.m. after a man reported finding a child on a tricycle at Division and Musser streets.

Deputies responded to the AM/PM Store at Carson and William streets where they found Bryan Eaton, 20.

Eaton said he had found the child at Division and Musser Streets at 2:15 a.m.

According to the police reports, Eaton told officers when he approached the boy he was shaking and crying.

Eaton told deputies he walked around the area with the toddler looking for his house and the boy pointed to a home in the 400 block of West Third Street. Eaton then took the boy to a pay phone to call police.

Carson City Sheriff's Department deputies went to the home and saw pictures of the child on the walls but found no one home. The boy was turned over to Child Protective Services and deputies left a note on the door of the home.

At 4:20 a.m., Ferguson called dispatch after finding the note, the report states.

According to the report, Ferguson allegedly told deputies she had made sure her son was asleep, then went to the store for cigarettes. The police reports says Ferguson estimated her time gone as approximately 30 minutes.

Ferguson declined comment.

Child endangerment is a gross misdemeanor.
