Senior lifting event scheduled

The Douglas County Senior Center will conduct the Senior Games "Big Iron Challenge."

The weightlifting competition will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 9 at Minden Park.

Competitors 49 years old and older will compete in bench press, dead lift, clean and jerk and squat. Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in the various age and weight divisions. There will also be a "Big Iron" overall champion.

All entrants are invited to participate in the Vestin Nevada Senior Games State Championships to be held Sept. 27 through Oct. 7 in Las Vegas.

The fee to participate is $15, which permits competitors to enter all other sports for the remainder of the Senior Games schedule. Registration deadline is Sept. 6. For more information, call the Senior Center, 783-6455.
