Authorities seek help in locating robbery suspect

Carson City police are seeking the public's help in their search for a man who robbed an ATM machine by demanding money from bank workers last week.

A composite sketch, generated by computer, was released Tuesday for public distribution. Chief Deputy Scott Burau hopes the image will bring new information to a case that has produced few leads.

"We have not developed a suspect yet," Burau said. "And we have yet to recover the canisters that were taken from the machine."

Although he would not reveal the amount stolen, Burau said it was significant, all in $20 bills. The robber approached two workers Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Greater Nevada Credit Union on Second Street, one block from the sheriff's department.

Although deputies were quickly dispatched to the scene, the robber ran down an alley, carrying the cash. A later search of the area revealed a pellet gun adjacent to the alley.

Burau said the gun contained no fingerprints and that investigators do not know if the gun is connected to the crime. No weapon was shown when the robbery occurred and the robber was not caught on the surveillance system.

The man is described as black, 6 feet tall, 165 pounds and 25 years old. He had a shaved head and no facial hair.

The robber is believed to be a resident of Carson City or the surrounding area.
