The Carson High girls basketball team picked up an impressive win on the road on Wednesday, winning 61-40 at Elko.
Carson improved to 2-0 in picking up its first win at Elko under Coach Paul Croghan.
Elko led 11-10 after one quarter, but Carson took control in the second quarter, outscoring Elko 24-10 to take a 34-21 halftime lead.
"The first quarter we played a little tight on the road for the first time," Croghan said.
Katie Kotter had an outstanding game for Carson with 27 points. She was supported by Erin Stieber, who had 12 points and Meghan Gradert, who scored six points.
Stieber and Gradert were both plagued by early foul trouble, Croghan said. But Croghan said his bench played well, providing for a solid team effort.
The Senators also had an outstanding night from the foul line. After struggling to a 9-for-22 effort from the line in its opener against Dayton, Carson hit 17-of-21 against Elko.
"We shot the ball much better tonight," Croghan said. "It was a nice win."
Carson won the junior varsity game 31-19 while Elko won the freshmen game 51-30.

Brandee Smith hit five three-pointers on her way to scoring 19 points in leading Yerington to a win in its season opener. Sarah Sciarani added 16 points for Yerington. The Lions also beat Smith Valley in the junior varsity game.
