The Carson girls soccer team put together its best effort of the year so far in a 2-0 win at Elko.

Ali Banister scored both of Carson's goals in the first half, one on a penalty kick and one on an assist from Bria Dankworth. Goalie Krissy Rose had an outstanding game, posting 15 saves for her second straight shutout.

Ali Davis and Carolina Hernandez also had solid performances for Carson (3-0).

GALENA GIRLS WIN

The Galena girls soccer team held on for the win to improve to 3-0, beating Hug 2-1.

There was no scoring until the 64th minute until Patricia Garrick scored. Amy Jackson scored on an assist from Annie Baxter 10 minutes later to give Galena a 2-0 lead. Hug answered one minute later, but Galena held on.

Goalie Jayleen Chen posted the win for Galena, which was denied many times by Hug goalie Christina Java, who had 18 saves.

"We're kind of hurting ourselves," Galena Coach Sean Canty said. "We're going to have to find ways to put easy opportunities in the net, but we've got plenty of time."
