GARDNERVILLE - Four extra base hits triggered a nine-run fourth inning and Loren Wooldridge pitched a complete game as Carson National posted a 13-4 victory against Carson American during opening round play at the District I Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
Down 3-2 going into the fourth inning, Carson National scored nine times to take the lead for good. Josh Caron and Tony Zevnick tripled, Donovan Sanchez and Matt Wagner delivered doubles, and J.T. Cockerill added a two-run single to lead the barrage in a game played at Gardnerville Ranchos Aspen Park.
That was enough support for Wooldridge, who threw 95 pitches over six innings for the complete game.
He was aided by a defense that sparkled several times. Second baseman Jeremiah Teeter took a chopper off his chin and threw out the batter, then on the next play made a jumping catch of a line drive.
Carson American banged out nine hits, led by Logan Parslee's 3-for-4 with a double. Nick Smallman also hit 2-for-4, while Aaron Harvey and Royal Good had one hit each.
Jack Jacquet started on the mound for Carson American and allowed three runs on five hits and two walks before departing in the fourth.
Carson National plays Reno Continental at 2 p.m. at Aspen Park. Carson American faces Sparks Centennial in a 5 p.m. contest.
