Any time an undefeated Carson High boys basketball team can beat a Las Vegas school, it's a significant accomplishment.
But now the real test for Carson comes today. The Senators began their three-game stretch in Las Vegas Thursday with a 70-53 win over Palo Verde.
Next up today is a game with one of the state's top teams, Durango.
"It's good to beat Las Vegas schools," said Carson Coach Bruce Barnes, whose team is 4-0. "I'll take any win."
Carson shut down Palo Verde in the first half in taking a 31-17 halftime lead. "We started out a little sluggish," Barnes said. "We played real good defense in the first half."
Cody Longero scored 22 points, Vince Inglima had 18 points and Vince Reymus added 12 points for the Senators. Point guard Jeff Young dished out seven assists.
"We'll have to play exceptional," said Barnes about today's game with Durango. "They're a notch above everybody. It's a good measuring test.
"We're learning as we go along. The kids are playing great. They're playing hard."
