Dayton picks volleyball win

A balanced Dayton High School volleyball team swept to a three-set victory in its Northern 3A opener at Spring Creek on Friday.


Dayton (2-1 overall, 1-0 in division) won 15-12, 15-8, 15-11 against a Spring Creek squad that qualified for last year's 3A state tournament.


Cayla Reese delivered five kills, 12 assists and eight service points, while Cindy Wanbaugh had four kills, 10 assists and eight service points for the Dust Devils. Rachel Hurt contributed five service points (two aces), two kills and one block. Jenni Essman had 13 service points (two aces), Carissa Leach had seven points and two kills and Jennie Morphew five kills to go with three blocks.


Both Dayton's freshman and J.V. teams won their matches against Spring Creek.


The Dust Devils play another Northern 3A match today against Lowry in Winnemucca.
