It's time for local runners and walkers to get dirty, dusty and damn hot again. In other words, Carson City's fifth annual annual Dirty, Dusty, Damn Hot Relay will be held on Aug. 6 at El Charro Avitia Restaurant.

Held as a benefit for the Carson Advocates for Cancer Cure, the event is staged on a 5-kilometer (3.1-miles) loop around El Charro, located at 4389 South Carson Street. The race starts at 10 a.m.

The race involves teams of three members each running a 5-K leg - a total of 15 kilometers for each team. The event also includes an ironman division for runners who want to cover the entire 15-kilometer distance solo, and a 5-K is held for walkers.

Another featured attraction is the corporate division, which offers a revolving trophy that is held for display by the winning team's sponsor each year.

It's an event for anyone, according to race coordinator Dan Kimm of Fleet Feet Sports.

"This race goes way back, at least 15 years, and it's always one of the most fun races we put on," Kimm said. "And the best part is the food afterward. Avel (Avitia, race sponsor) always does a good job. Without him, this race would not happen."

Registration is being taken now at Fleet Feet Sports - the fee is $20, $23 after Aug. 3 - and race packets may be picked up between noon and 6 p.m. on the day before the race.
