DMV: Car registration forms delayed

Nevada drivers whose registration is due between Saturday and Jan. 5 may not have received their renewal forms yet.

Ginny Lewis, Deputy Director of the Department of Motor Vehicles, said the stickers which have the new date on them were delayed by the manufacturer.

Therefore, the department hasn't had time to send out notices to motorists.

"We apologize for an inconvenience this vendor delay may have caused our customers," Lewis said. "We are in the process of obtaining equipment that will automate the decal procedure by allowing us to produce them "in-house. We hope to have the decal machine up and running by next year."

American Decal, the Chicago vendor who supplies the decals, did not provide them in time to process registrations expiring in early January. The decals have been delivered and are now in branch offices across the state. Customers whose registrations come up for renewal the last week of December may have only seven to 10 days to renew.

No late fees will be assessed for motorists whose registrations expire between Dec. 23-Jan. 5.

Customers who receive their registration renewal notice and whose registrations expire between Dec. 23 and Jan. 5 are urged to use the alternative renewal services: renew by mail, interactive phone renewal and Internet renewal.
