The Douglas boys soccer team made Brad Bryant's first half goal stand up in a hard fought 1-0 win over Reed.
"It was a war," said Douglas Coach Milko Vasquez, whose team improved to 2-0. "Reed played well."
Douglas outshot Reed 12-10. Nate Gardner made eight saves in posting the shutout. Other standouts were Robbie Honer at midfield and forward Gieorag Andrews.
GALENA GIRLS WIN
Nine different players scored for the Galena girls soccer team in its 10-0 rout of Wooster. Mealine Rodarte all scored two goals and Annie Baxter, Patricia Garrick, Bianca Sciotto, Erin Davis, Heather Young, Heather Wark, Kendra Sanders and Jayleen Chen all scored.
Chen, who is Galena's regular goalie, combined with Sciotto to post the shutout. Chen had three saves and Sciotto added one save.
Wark and Davis each had two assists and Sciotto, Garrick, Young, Sanders and Jaimee Fleischmann all had assists. The score could have been worse had Wooster not made 19 saves.
"In a game like this, we worked on our team shape and moving the ball well," Douglas Coach Sean Canty said. Canty also said Wark and Davis had excellent games.
He added he was pleased that all of his team's goals came off of crossing passes, with the exception of Garrick's, which came on a penalty kick.
