The Dayton boys basketball team just couldn't overcome the effort of Fernley's Tyler Selden.
Selden scored 29 points, including the game-winning basket with three seconds left to give Fernley a 61-59 win over the Dust Devils Saturday at the Lovelock Tournament.
"Actually we played really well," Dayton Coach Rob Streeter said. "I was pretty happy with the performance. We played pretty hard.
"I was definitely very proud of the effort the kids gave. We played well enough to win. A lot of things to look forward to."
Streeter said his team led most of the game. He added he was happy that his team was able to take Fernley down to the wire without two of its starters, Justin Daw and Justin Caudill, who were both out with injuries.
"To lose without two of our starters on the last play of the game - we competed very well," Streeter said.
Brian Lahmann scored 23 points, Jake Dean had 16 points, Logan Haymore scored eight points and Nick McQueen added six points for Dayton (5-3).
