Kinney Reservoir is great for fly fishermen
LAKE ALMANOR: No report.
BLUE LAKES (UPPER AND LOWER): Dave Kirby of the Woodfords General Store said that both lakes continue to be very strong. Lower Blue was best. Many limits of average sized rainbows from shore on inflated worms.
BOCA RESERVOIR: Dick "Father" Murphy of Fishing with Father Murphy advised fishermen to troll for Kokanee salmon in the middle of the reservoir, north to south, at a depth of 30-40 feet.
BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR: Andrew Sears of Ken's Sporting Goods Store said, "Not much has changed from last week's report. Fishing is not red-hot. I would rate it fair to good. Power Bait and nightcrawlers are still working best for anchored boats. The best fishing has been straight out from the last buoy at Falling Rock Marina."
CAPLES LAKE: Was reported to be good for average sized rainbows for shore fishermen with Power Bait near the far dam.
CARSON RIVERS (EAST AND WEST) IN CALIF.: Dave Kirby of the Woodford's Station gave this report, "Both streams are clear and low. Fishing is a challenge and you have to be on your toes because the trout are spooky. Chuck Bonas of Minden caught a 1-pound, 14-ounce rainbow.
CRATER LAKE (Near Kit Carson Pass): No report.
CONVICT LAKE AND CONVICT CREEK: David DeSurra of the Convict Lake Resort reported, "Beautiful, clear days with magnificent fishing. Fifteen more Calif. Fish and Game lunkers were stocked this week in the creek by the Hot Creek hatchery."
Convict Lake: The largest trout were a 4.75 pound rainbow caught on rainbow Power Bait by a boat near the jetty, a 4.74 pound Alper's rainbow on a nightcrawler eat the south inlet and a 4.49 pound rainbow on rainbow Power Bait from the jetty.
Convict Creek: The largest trout of the week was a 1.96 pound rainbow taken on red salmon eggs.
CROWLEY LAKE: No report.
DAVIS LAKE: No report.
EAGLE LAKE: Dave Meserve of the Eagle Lake Marina said, "Great fishing continues at Eagle Lake. More and more fish are being caught in the 4-5 pound bracket. Average size is running 2.5-3 pounds. Hot spots continue to be Eagle's Nest, Wildcat Point, Shrimp Island and Pelican Point. Fish deep (20-40 feet) with nightcrawlers or troll with worms or Needlefish, Rainbow Runner or Thomas Buoyant lures. Use 4-5 colors of lead core line with a long leader."
Feather River: According to Kirk Portocarrero of Outdoor Adventures Sport Fishing in Redding, "The river is at 6,000 C.F.S. Fishing for kings is productive with fish ranging in size from 12 to 30 pounds. Using both Flatfish lures and bouncing roe."
FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR: Nice fish, 1-3 pounds on worms or Power Bait. The fishermen are fishing either deep from the shore or trolling deep.
HEENAN LAKE: Closed until the Friday before Labor Day.
HOBART RESERVOIR: No report.
HOOVER WILDERNESS AREA: West of Bridgeport: Gilman Lake was reporting good fishing for mostly Eastern brook and an occasional rainbow trout for fly fishermen using various flies.
INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR: Was reported to still be very murky due to the algae in the water.
JUNE LAKE LOOP (GRANT-GULL-JUNE-SILVER LAKES-RUSH CREEK): No report.

Kinney Lake, a short hike from Kinney Reservoir, also reported good fishing for fly fishermen using dry flies for Eastern brook trout.

SACRAMENTO RIVER: According to Kirk Portocarrero of Outdoor Adventures Sport Fishing in Redding, "The river is at 12,000 C.F.S., between Redding and Anderson. Fishing for rainbow trout is great with 15-25 fish days. Using Glo-Bugs, Wee-Warts ad Flatfish lures. Kings are here, ranging in size from 12 to 30 pounds, with the average being 20 pounds. Using Flatfish lures with sardine wraps."
SILVER LAKE: No report.
SHASTA LAKE: No report.
SOUTH-NORTH-INTAKE 2-BISHOP CREEK (WEST OF BISHOP):
South Lake: Trolling with olive bead head Woolly Bugger flies across from the landing has been great. A lot of browns on Rapala lures from shore and from boats. Bait fishing close to the dam and behind the island has been exceptional.
North Lake and Intake No. 2: Very good at both lakes with gold Kastmaster lures. Nightcrawlers are catching lots of fish.
Sabrina Lake: Trolling has been the most popular. Olive Woolly Buggers have been very successful as well as flashers with nightcrawlers.
Bishop Creek: The largest trout were a 5-pound, 3-ounce rainbow on a frog spinner and a 2-pound, 5-ounce rainbow on Power Bait.
STAMPEDE RESERVOIR: Dick "Father" Murphy of "Fishing with Father Murphy" advised fishermen to troll at a depth of 35-45 feet from the boat ramp to the "big island" early in the morning and then later, to move to the front of the dam. The Kokanee salmon are running 1-1.5 pounds in the 15-16 inch class.
LAKE TAHOE - North Shore: Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters reported, "We're still catching good numbers of nice-sized Mackinaw trout on each trip. We are tagging and releasing the smaller ones. We're trolling 250-550 feet deep in the area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach. The best action is on Herring Dodger flasher blades with either live minnows or pearl Apex lures."
LAKE TAHOE - SOUTH SHORE: Jack Martin of the Sportsmen's Sporting Goods Store at South Lake Tahoe checked in and said, "Fishing is great for Kokanee salmon all the way from Elk Point on the Nevada side to the mouth of Emerald Bay on the California side. Lots of limits. They are trolling 40-65 feet deep with Al Wilson flasher blades with an Imperial Magic spoon and a kernel of white corn. The best time is from 5:15 to 9 each morning.
TOPAZ LAKE: Chuck Fields of the Topaz Marina gave this report, "The water is pretty warm and the lake level is dropping. The fish have gone deeper. It's been pretty quiet and hardly anyone is fishing right now. I haven't seen a limit in a long time. We have lots of jet skis and water skiers."
LOWER TWIN LAKE: No report.
UPPER TWIN LAKE: Jim Wilkins reported, "Lots of fish being caught during Fish Derby Week. The largest trout of the week was a 6-pound, 2-ounce rainbow caught on a Thomas Buoyant lure by an angler not entered in the derby. Kastmaster and Roostertail lures and Power Bait are drawing some nice stringers. Another 250 pounds of German browns were planted by Mono Village. The Calif. Dept. of Fish and Game continues to stock the lake weekly."
VIRGINIA LAKES AND VIRGINIA CREEK:

WALKER LAKE: Bob Tompkins of the Walker Lake Guide Services said, "The fishing is picking up for anglers using live minnows either on the east side in 20 feet of water or in the deep water in front of the Cliffs. The cutthroat are running 3-5 pounds."
WALKER RIVERS (EAST-WEST-LITTLE):
East Walker River (Nev.): Bob Tompkins of the Walker Lake Guide Services reported, "The "Elbow" area continues to be darn good for rainbows and German browns on Panther-Martin or Roostertail lures or with Power Eggs or nightcrawlers."
East Walker River (Calif.): Was flowing at 250 C.F.S. Best for fly fishermen with Nymphs or Caddis flies for German browns up to 25 inches.
West Walker River (Nev.): No report.
West Walker River (Calif.): Andrew Sears of Ken's Sporting Goods Store reported, "Good for everyone: bait fishermen, spincasters and fly fishermen. Lots of average sized trout. Everyone is catching fish. The best area for fly fishermen is right in front of the Pickle Meadows Marine Corps Base."
Little Walker River: Good fishing for small rainbows and brookies on worms near the U.S.F.S. Obsidian Campground.
WEBER RESERVOIR: No report.
WILDHORSE RESERVOIR: Dennis Dunn of the Wildhorse Resort said, "The fishing is pretty steady. The rainbows are good, the bass are good and the perch are better. They are catching bucketfuls of perch, up to 11 inches. The perch are biting on anything. Lots of limits of rainbows and browns on Kamikaze lures. No big fish but some of the trout are running up to 3-3.5 pounds."
