"Balmy" weather at Wildhorse Reservoir


LAKE ALMANOR: No report.


LAKE ALPINE: No report.


BLUE LAKES (UPPER AND LOWER): No report.


BOCA RESERVOIR: No report.


CAPLES LAKE: No report. Has ice but it is still too thin. Dangerous.


DAVIS LAKE: No report.


EAGLE LAKE: No report.


FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR: According to Wiggin's Trading Post at Chilcoot, there has been a lot of positive action reported this past week. Many limits have been taken. On Nov. 21, two bank fishermen caught a 3 pound rainbow and a 2 pound rainbow. They were fishing at the dam and using rainbow glitter Power Bait. On Nov. 26, two anglers caught a 12 pound stringer of rainbows. They were fishing by the "Narrows" and at Lunker Point. They used worms for bait. There are also many Christmas tree cutters.


INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station said, "It was a great weekend. A number of fishermen reported catching their limits. They were fishing from shore with worms. A 4-pound, 11-ounce rainbow and a 4-pound, 1-ounce rainbow were caught. The best fishing has been at the south end and at the dam. The Eagle Lake strain rainbows are taking on their spawning colors. There is no ice and the temperatures have been mild"


Summit Lake above Indian Creek Reservoir: No report.


KENNEY RESERVOIR: No report.


LAHONTAN RESERVOIR: No report.


PYRAMID LAKE: Lawrence Quadrio of the Gilly's Sporting Goods Store in Sparks reported, "It's not real consistent yet, but 9 out of every 10 days the fishermen are catching quite a few fish. Darker colored flies for fly fishermen, Chartreuse colored TOR-P-DO lures for spin casters and Flatfish, Kwikfish, Apex, Rapala and TOR-P-DO lures for trollers are working the best. Fishermen in chest waders at The Nets are catching lots of fish. Shore fishermen are beginning to score with buck tail jigs. The best shore fishing has been at The Nets, Warrior Point, Popcorn and The Cattleguard."


RED LAKE: No report. Has ice but it is still too thin. Dangerous.


SACRAMENTO RIVER: According to Kirk Portocarrero of Redding. Calif., "In the Anderson-Balls Ferry Area, the salmon are still few in numbers. On a good day, producing one fish per rod. River is at 5,500 C.F.S. Salmon are ranging in size from 15 to 20 pounds. An occasional one over 30 pounds. Most salmon are bright chrome in color. Boaters are using Flatfish lures wrapped with sardines.


SILVER LAKE: No report. Has ice but it is still too thin. Dangerous.


SHASTA LAKE: No report.


STAMPEDE RESERVOIR: No report.


LAKE TAHOE - North Shore: Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters has been gone to a family re-union in Florida. There is no report for North Lake Tahoe this week.


LAKE TAHOE - SOUTH SHORE: Wes of the Sportsmen's Sporting Goods Store at South Lake Tahoe said, "It has been red hot for small rainbows. They are running 1-3 pounds with an occasional one in the 4-5 pound class. Mackinaw fishermen have been trolling 160-180 feet deep in front of The Keys or Ski Run Blvd. Average size Macks and the rainbows are being caught on silver flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures."


WALKER LAKE: Bob Tompkins of the Walker Lake Guide Services said, "It is not real hot and heavy but fishing has picked up a little. The fishermen are catching about 4 fish per day. The best success has been out in the middle of the lake between Sand Point and the Cliffs. They are surface trolling with hammered brass/striped TOR-P-DO lures. Ray Hemmer of Hawthorne caught a 5 pounder at Sand Point while fishing from shore with Power Bait."


WALKER RIVERS (EAST-WEST-LITTLE):


East Walker River (Nev.): Very low and crystal clear.


Bob Tompkins of the Walker Lake Guide Services reported, "The "Elbow" area continues to produce average size rainbows and an occasional German brown on Panther-Martin or Roostertail lures or with Power Eggs or nightcrawlers."


West Walker River (Nev.): No report.


WEBER RESERVOIR: Bob Tompkins of the Walker Lake Guide Services reported, "Access to the reservoir is open. Check on current fishing conditions and restrictions at the Schurz Smoke Shop on U.S. 95."


WILDHORSE RESERVOIR: Dennis Dunn of the Wildhorse Resort said, "The temperature has been a almost balmy 15 degrees the last couple of nights. We had a 10-day stretch where the high only got up to 27 degrees and it got down to -10 degrees at night. There are 4-6 inches of ice on reservoir. The ice fishermen are doing pretty well. They are using worms with a piece of corn to catch perch up to 12 inches and rainbows in the 12-20 inch class. The best fishing has been in the coves and inlets. The ice is still too thin in the center of the reservoir."
