Four Nevada airports get grants

Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., says four Nevada airports have won grants that will pay for more than $6 million in improvements.

"While Nevada continues to experience the highest population growth in the nation, we must ensure that our transportation and other infrastructure requirements are met," he said.

The largest grant will go to the Hawthorne Municipal Airport in Mineral County. More than $2.9 million in Federal Aviation Administration funding will help improve the runway and taxiway areas and install guidance signs.

Reno-Stead airport north of Reno will get $2 million for taxiway and apron lighting and for better perimeter fencing.

Boulder City Municipal Airport in Clark County will get $1.1 million to rehabilitate the runway and extend the taxiways. The funds will also help improve guidance signs and drainage control.

Finally, Reno-Tahoe International will get $250,000 to update its Noise Compatibility Plan Study.
