No matter what the distance, or event, young Mike Freeman of Gardnerville seems to be on a roll right now.

Two weeks ago Freeman, a 12-year-old who will be a 7th grader this coming year, won his 12-and-under age Cal-Neva Mile run on Virginia Street in Reno with a time of 6 minutes and 1 second.

Switching sports to triathlon, Freeman also an age group and overall winner at the Biggest Little Kids Triathlon held last month at Idlewild Park in Reno. The race consisted of a 200-meter swim, 4-mile bicycle leg and a 3/4-mile run. Freeman was in the top 10 after the swim, then made up ground on his bicycle and finally came from behind to win the race at wire by one-tenth of a second.

Freeman was also a second-place finisher in his age category at the Make-A-Wish Foundation Stepping Out for Wishes 5-K Run at William Land Park June 12 in Sacramento. He finished the 3.1-mile distance in 24:13.
