Here's hoping Guinn will protect consumers

Let's hope Gov. Guinn can stop the increase in power rates that Sierra Pacific Power wants to impose on the Northern Nevada consumers.

If he can cut off the federal government water for Yucca, he should be able to stop the flow of gold to Sierra Pacific. Of course when you buy other utilities and build more power plants, the company needs more money. It seems they have increased the Las Vegas rates but they are richer than Northern Nevada.

A decision that it is illegal not to impose higher rates makes me wonder about our state legal department. They must be busy raising taxes and getting pay increases. If you are in gaming, mining or utilities, you are a winner in Nevada. But God help the poor consumer. Now all you utility users better get the hamburger and potato routine that was so popular during the Great Depression.
