Letter: Candidate shows support for judge

I would first like to thank all the people who supported me in the primary election by casting their vote in my favor. I didn't receive enough votes to go on to the general election. However, I did get an opportunity to meet some very interesting people. One of those was an opponent of mine, John Bennetts.

You can tell a lot about people by their children. I am a bus driver and have transported many of Dayton's finest students. I have had the opportunity to transport the Bennetts' daughter who was courteous, respectful, polite, well-mannered and obviously well raised.

John introduced himself to me first at the Dayton Valley Days parade that we were both in. He was very nice and encouraged me in my campaign. The second time I spoke with John was after the primary election. He met with me and shared some of his feelings and beliefs about different issues that would be presented in the Justice Court.

The judge in Justice Court takes the place of a jury, and I feel that it is necessary for this person to be a common peer to the people. Since the court system has mandatory training to learn court procedure, anyone with a desire to serve can run for this position and develop the necessary skills without already being in the legal profession. John has a lot of life experience to pull from. I am happy to support him in the general election. I would like to also encourage those who voted for me to do likewise.

John Bennetts is a fine man who will listen and support his community. He is always available and very approachable. He is often in front of Smith's grocery store as he wants to meet as many people as possible. Jon is the only candidate who has made himself accessible to so many. John, a native of Lyon County, lives with his wife and is currently raising his children here. You will find John is very able and willing to serve this community as the new justice of the peace. So please remember John Bennetts on Nov. 7.
