I have just finished reading the article about the young man who hit a pregnant women on Carson Street. My heart goes out to both the woman and the young man.
There have been many close calls that I have personally witnessed on Carson Street. This is the most dangerous street to cross in a crosswalk.
There must be a solution to this problem. I feel that a city which is a large tourist area should be responsible for providing flashing lights to worn of pedestrians crossing the street.
Most out of town drivers are so busy looking around our historical district that they are not paying adequate attention to the road. This is not to say this young man was from out of town, but it is difficult to see pedestrians in the crosswalks.
The alternative would be to eliminate all crosswalks that are not at a traffic signal. I know this is not a popular suggestion to this problem, yet how many lives will it take before something is done? My prayers to the woman and the young man who has to now live with his momentary mistake.
