Letter: July 4 weekend was important to Marines

This past Fourth of July weekend meant a lot to the local Marine veterans and their families. Nine days prior, several of our former Marines stood proud at the Korean Day ceremonies held in Reno and received an award for their service in Korea, an act long overdue.

On July 3 and 4, some of these same former Marines manned and greeted the public at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, answering questions and proudly showing off their new medals received.

Indeed, July 4, our Independence Day 2000 had special meaning to the Silver State Detachment Marines and Auxiliary. The public who visited our displays spoke to our veterans and patronized our concession stand reiterated that our community is thankful and proud of their veterans who served. We as a league and women's auxiliary are committed in providing a service within our community providing needy items to those less fortunate within our area.

The Silver State Detachment and Auxiliary wish to thank you, the community, for your continual support and hope that you will visit us again at future events.
