Letter: Theaters should improve service

In response to the article in the Nevada Appeal on Sunday, Oct., 29, in the business section titled "Theaters find prosperity in Carson-size markets," the success of the theater is not because of good customer service or cleanliness; the success is solely because Wallace Theaters are the only ones in town.

I go to the theater on an average of three to four times a month. I love to see movies on the big screen. What Wallace failed to mention in the article is that the customer service is inadequate, the cleanliness is deplorable (bathrooms are appalling) and as long as you are lucky enough to see a movie on one of the four large screens, you are OK. If you end up in one of the smaller theaters, you will feel like you are sitting right on top of the screen and the volume is usually very loud.

I am all for hiring young people, but Wallace needs a training program and proper supervision! I have been to the theater when the air conditioning was on and it was freezing. I asked three times before, during and after the movie for the air to be turned off and it never was. I know others complained as well. At various times they have been out of popcorn, soda and other refreshment items.

I now drive to Minden's Ironwood Cinema to see a movie. All the theaters are large with stadium seating, digital sound and the latest technology (which Wallace also has in four theaters). In addition, they have never been out of a refreshment item I've ordered. It's clean, and their young employees are always courteous and pleasant.

I have heard many other moviegoers with the same complaints. Because I now got to Minden to see a movie, I know that a theater can be run in a more acceptable manner. I feel Wallace Theaters has an obligation to provide a pleasant atmosphere for all who attend. The only way is to let Wallace Theaters know these conditions are not acceptable. If enough of us let them know how we feel, maybe some changes could be made to make going to a movie in Carson City an enjoyable experience and we can keep the revenue in Carson City instead of Minden.
