YERINGTON - Lyon County Utilities has been given the go-ahead to hire a third consulting engineer company.
County commissioners last week approved the firm of Brown and Caldwell to join Western Engineering and Capital Engineering as on-call technical consultants for municipal engineering and environmental questions.
In requesting the additional help, Public Works Director Dan O'Brien said the workload justifies the addition of another firm.
"It has been obvious that Western Engineering is not able to keep up with the demand. We will continue to utilize them for water rights work, but due to existing workloads by both our current consultants, we need another engineering firm that can provide timely services," he told the board.
O'Brien said Brown and Caldwell, located in Carson City, was chosen because
of their extensive resources and experience with the planning and construction of wastewater and water facilities.
"They will be able to provide the wide range of services needed by the Utilities Division. They do not have clients in the Utilities service area and do not provide services to developers in Nevada, therefore conflicts of interest will be limited," he noted.
