An 18-year-old Carson City man was charged with two misdemeanor crimes after he reportedly fired a shotgun outside his apartment Wednesday afternoon.

Robert Grayson, 18, a laundry distributor, was arrested at 5:19 p.m. at the Carson Catalina Apartments in the 700 block of Hot Springs Road where he lives.

Deputies responded to the complex after receiving reports of shots fired shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday. Preliminary statements from Grayson put authorities on the alert to look for another alleged suspect, but that information was determined to be false when a witness said Grayson fired the shot.

Grayson had told police that he brought the gun out of his apartment to protect himself during a fight and that his opponent had taken it and fired a round.

During the investigation, he admitted he discharged the gun into the ground after the other man had left, according to a report.

He was ordered held in lieu of $985 bail.
