A young man shot near the Douglas County Library on Tuesday night was Careflighted and admitted to the emergency room at Washoe Medical Center with an apparent abdomen wound. He was listed in satisfactory condition.
Paramedics from the East Fork fire department, situated across the street from the library responded to the scene at approximately 7 p.m. When police arrived the victim was uncooperative and would not reveal information about the suspect or suspects, Douglas County Sheriff's Office Lt. Mike Biaggini said.
"Apparently on the onset the subject was uncooperative about where he was shot, who had shot him or the circumstances surrounding the incident," he said. "He came over to people outside the library who called for him."
No suspect information was available at press time. Investigators were combing the area at County and Library roads looking for blood or shell casings, Biaggini said.
He could not say if the victim, whose identity is unknown, was shot near the intersection.
Biaggini said witnesses interviewed at the scene could not provide any information, however, one woman said she did see a car speeding away from the area.
"We have no idea about the number of shots, " Biaggini said. "The paramedics were working on him and had him in the helicopter before we could talk to him."
