More than 400 runners and walkers of all shapes and sizes - and even attire - are expected to be out on the streets of Carson City for the 12th annual Carson Nugget Nevada Day Classic on Saturday.
The event will feature 8-kilometer and 2-mile runs and 2-mile walk through the city's historical district, all starting from the corner of Telegraph and Curry streets, across the street from the Carson Nugget.
The gun for the 2-mile historical walk goes off at 8:15 a.m., followed by the start of the 2-mile run at 8:30 and 8-K run at 8:35.
Top finishers in 10 different age categories as well as the Clydesdale Division (men 200 pounds and over, women 150 pounds and over) will receive awards. Participants are invited to turn out in Halloween costumes - entrants will vote for the top three costumes, which will also receive awards.
"We're looking for another great race," event director Tim Tetz said. "We may see some records fall, too."
Two records fell in last year's run: Scott Young of Reno was the overall 8-K winner in a course record time of 26 minutes, 57 seconds and Julie Hinton set a women's record in the 2-mile with a time of 13:56.
Sarah Piccolo, a Carson High School graduate, set the women's course record of 28:29 in 1998.
