Nick's Pizza, which brought a Greek flavor to downtown Carson City in 1987, is under new ownership, but its trademark pizzas still feature plenty of feta cheese, artichoke hearts and linguisa.
"It's the same menu, the same recipes, the same pizza," Jim Olivas said Tuesday. "The old customers are still coming in and saying they like the pizza, so we'll keep that the way it is."
Olivas and stepsons Matthew and Aaron Price took the restaurant over Aug. 5 and received their beer and wine licenses last week.
They bought the restaurant from George and Maria Metropoulos, who had owned Nick's since 1991. The Metropouloses bought it from founder Nick Galakatos, Maria's brother, who opened it in 1987.
If Olivas' name sounds familiar to long-time residents, it's because he shares it with father Jimmy Olivas, long-time boxing coach at the University of Nevada, Reno.
The pizzas feature Galakatos' recipes of scratch dough and all-fresh ingredients. Another popular item is the large Greek salads.
Nick's now stays open a bit later, until 10 p.m. weeknights and 11 on weekends.
Olivas said Nick's has remained open seven days a week since the sale, but may close on Sundays.
The Metropouloses reportedly are making retirement arrangements.
